The Renosterveld Project is located on the Breede River, just 2 ½ hours drive from Cape Town, 28 kms south of Swellendam. The conservation area covers over 360 hectares of land, with 2,6 kms of frontage on one of the most peaceful and unspoilt stretches of the river.
Renosterveld is the most endangered vegetation in the entire fynbos region of the Western Cape, with only 3% of its original extent remaining. Most has been lost to farming, because of the high agricultural value of the soils on which it occurs. Of the remaining renosterveld, less than 1.6 percent is protected in formal conservation reserves.
The reserve offers a wealth of fauna and flora, with abundant birdlife, whilst the river provides excellent fishing, kayaking and swimming.
